Bulgaria is a remarkable country not only because of its excellent conditions for holidays on the Black Sea coast and its sunny climate, as well as its remarkably welcoming attitude towards our tourists, but also because it offers the opportunity to visit several nearby countries.

Bulgaria is like a fascinating matryoshka doll: open it, and before your astonished eyes appears ancient Greece; open another layer, and there you are on a journey to mysterious Istanbul, ancient Constantinople; one more layer, and Romanian Transylvania with its mysterious Dracula’s Castle appears before you, along with Croatia, North Macedonia, Serbia… “the whole world in the palm of your hand, you are happy and speechless…”
Bulgaria – Turkey

Many tourists travel from Bulgaria to Istanbul. These excursions are usually by bus and allow you to spend one or two days getting an impression of one of Turkey’s largest cities, exploring its remarkable history connected with both Byzantium and the Ottoman Empire, visiting the famous Blue Mosque, the ancient Hippodrome, and the old Topkapi Palace, which still preserves the atmosphere of the era of Suleiman the Magnificent. You can also take a boat trip along the Bosphorus and experience the atmosphere of the Asian side of this huge, slightly crazy, and therefore wonderful city.
If you choose the two-day version of the excursion, it costs a little more (approximately €130 compared with €90 for the one-day excursion), but you will have a more in-depth and interesting introduction to magnificent Istanbul.
The two-day option is also preferable because the journey from Burgas to Istanbul takes approximately 6 hours, giving you more time to explore the city itself, for example by visiting Hagia Sophia, or adding a Turkish bath or the Grand Bazaar with its lively bustle and excellent shopping to your itinerary.
In this case, tourists stay at a hotel overnight, and you can take an independent walk through Istanbul at night, mysterious, unique, and fascinating.
Bulgaria – Greece

One of the most interesting trips from Bulgaria is an excursion to Greece, the land of ancient Hellas. Bulgarian Nessebar was also an ancient Greek colony, but to experience the grandeur of Hellenic civilization, breathe the air of the ancient Greek heroes and gods, and swim in the Aegean Sea, many tourists travel by bus from Bulgaria’s resort areas along the route: Philippi – Kavala – Keramoti – Thasos Island.
The excursion takes two days, and the journey from Sunny Beach to Kavala by comfortable bus takes approximately 10 hours, with the trip taking place at night.
Upon arrival, tourists are greeted by the inviting Aegean Sea and the magnificent beaches of Kavala, including Kalamitsa, Faliro, and Batis. Few people can resist the opportunity to compare the two seas, the Aegean and the Black Sea, and relax on Kavala’s beautiful beaches. There is also an alternative: you can visit the ancient Macedonian city of Philippi, where in the 1st century AD, at the Church of Saint Lydia, the Apostle Paul baptized the first Christians in Europe.
The historical heritage of magnificent Greece is on full display during this tour, as Kavala itself is a city of unique beauty and remarkable architectural monuments, including Kamares, the historic aqueduct, the Byzantine fortress, the Lazarion Monastery, the Imaret from the period of Ottoman rule, and much more.
Here, time seems to be compressed, and this small city brings together different eras and architectural styles in a remarkable way. Then, impressed by everything they have seen, tourists continue this event-filled excursion to Keramoti and the “pearl” of northern Greece, Thasos Island.
Not only is this island extraordinarily beautiful, with photographs taken there occupying some of the most honored places in travelers’ collections, but it is also home to the Monastery of Saint Michael the Archangel, which preserves a fragment of a nail said to have been driven into the hand of Jesus Christ. People come to Thasos from all over the world, and this is another reason to take this fascinating trip to Greece, which costs around €130.
Bulgaria – Romania

Another country that tourists from Bulgaria’s resort areas enjoy visiting is Romania. Excursions to this country are usually two-day trips and include visits to Bucharest and the famous “Dracula’s Castle” in Bran. A comfortable bus takes tourists to the Romanian capital in approximately 10 hours, where they take a sightseeing tour of its attractions. By dinner time, slightly tired but overwhelmed with wonderful impressions, travelers arrive at the mysterious and atmospheric Bran.
It is here, on a 60-meter-high rock, that the castle associated with Vlad the Impaler, better known as Count Dracula, is said to be hiding. This gloomy structure, steeped in a sinister atmosphere, becomes the focus of attention the following morning.
The castle was built in the 14th century and still impresses visitors with its imposing appearance. After the castle, the excursion continues to Sinaia, where you visit Peleș, the “Romanian Versailles”, a former royal residence with magnificent interiors and exhibits, as well as the 17th-century Sinaia Monastery.
The excursion costs around €130 and leaves no one indifferent, young or old. The contrast between sunny Bulgaria and Dracula’s domain is so striking that it adds an entirely different dimension to a holiday at Bulgaria’s resorts, making cheerful Bulgaria seem even more desirable and fascinating.
Bulgaria – North Macedonia

Excursions to North Macedonia from Bulgaria’s resorts are usually combined with a visit to Sofia, because the Bulgarian capital lies along the route taken by the comfortable bus.
First, a sightseeing tour of Sofia is organized, followed by lunch there, and by evening tourists arrive in Skopje, the capital of the country. The following day includes a visit to Skopje’s famous Old Town, the old Kale Fortress dating from the 11th century, Mustafa Pasha Mosque, the Old Bazaar, Čaršija, and other places of interest.
A trip to North Macedonia with a stop in Sofia, costing approximately €150, is a unique opportunity to see two European capitals at once. In two days, you can visit the Alexander Nevsky Memorial Cathedral in the Bulgarian capital and then, as if by magic, find yourself at the 12th-century Church of St. Panteleimon on Mount Vodno in Skopje, one of the oldest monuments remaining from Byzantine culture. This makes the tour one of the most interesting and event-filled options for traveling from Bulgaria’s resorts to other countries.
Bulgaria, thanks to its geographical location, is also convenient for trips to Croatia, Montenegro, Serbia, and even Italy, but these journeys are less popular than those described above because they require more travel time. Trips from Bulgaria’s resorts to Turkey, Greece, Romania, and North Macedonia, however, are very popular and can fill your holiday with unforgettable impressions, new experiences, and joy!
